Dashboards
Dashboards Definition
Dashboards give us an overview of a range of complex different data insights at a glance. With the right data always at hand, they save us time by instantly providing the complete picture.
What are dashboards?
Dashboards are a display of a series of data insights. They are a way to see an overview of particular related (or unrelated) data insights all on one page so that information is available at a glance.
For example, a monthly sales dashboard might include a graph of daily sales volume across the month, a list of best-selling items and volume, and comparisons for year-on-year change. It also might feature statistics on total sales for the month, revenue vs. profit, and total units.
Customizable dashboards
Each business is unique - which means that fixed, inflexible dashboards aren’t going to give you the best picture of your business. For example, the sales dashboard we mentioned earlier might be useful to most e-commerce businesses. Still, the company would probably like extra statistics, some different data points, or different types of data graphs.
User-created dashboards give a better business-specific view of precisely what you want to see. Customizable dashboards allow you to provide the right insights by team, business function, even down to the individual’s preferences.
Interactive dashboards
Interactive dashboards give an even more customizable view of your data insights. With interactive visualizations, actions such as clicking on a specific data point can have reflected changes on other visualizations on the screen, thanks to cross-filtering.
For instance, if you have a pie chart of sales by department in one corner of your dashboard and total sales and profit by month in another corner, clicking the childrens’ department on your pie chart would update the sales and profit chart to show the totals for that department only.
Interactive dashboards can be embedded into web pages to help customers or internal teams understand their operations without learning a new platform. They make it easier - and faster - to use dashboards to create insights and make better decisions.
